When you receive an invitation to walk with God, what does this really mean?
For 2026, the Youth Theme of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is “Walk With Me.” It is a simple, three-word invitation, but it carries a weight and a warmth that can change the course of a life. It is the same encouragement the Lord gave thousands of years ago to a prophet named Enoch.
These three words may make a short sentence, but the meaning and blessings behind them are worth exploring.
What is special about this invitation? Why should we say “yes” to walking with God?
The Lord, Enoch, and the Invitation to “Walk With Me”

Enoch was an ancient prophet found in the Old Testament and the Pearl of Great Price. He wasn’t born a confident leader; in fact, when the Lord first called him to do a hard thing—to preach to people who had turned away from God—he was terrified.
He looked at his own limitations and asked the Lord, “Why is it that I have found favor in thy sight, and am but a lad, and all the people hate me; for I am slow of speech; wherefore am I thy servant?” (Moses 6:31).
Have you ever felt like that? Like you are too young, too inexperienced, or simply not “enough” for what life is asking of you?
The Lord knew Enoch’s fears perfectly. But instead of excusing Enoch from the task, or picking someone who looked more like a traditional leader, the Lord extended an invitation and a promise. He simply said:
“Open thy mouth, and it shall be filled, and I will give thee utterance… behold my Spirit is upon you, wherefore all thy words will I justify; and the mountains shall flee before you, and the rivers shall turn from their course; and thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me.” (Moses 6:32, 34)
The Lord acknowledged Enoch’s trepidations. He didn’t deny that Enoch was “slow of speech.” He didn’t tell Enoch to just “get over it.” Instead, He offered a partnership.
The Lord knew what Enoch could do, but more importantly, He knew what they could do together. He knew that Enoch’s weakness could be made strong if he wasn’t walking the path alone.
So, Enoch accepted the invitation. He didn’t suddenly become a different person overnight; he simply chose to walk beside the Lord. And because of that closeness, everything changed. The scriptures tell us that his faith became so strong that when he spoke, the earth trembled and mountains moved (Moses 7:13). The “lad” who was afraid to speak became a mighty voice for truth, leading his people to a place of incredible peace and safety.
He succeeded not because he was perfect, but because he walked with the One who is.
When Is The Lord Inviting Us To Walk With Him?

We often think of “walking with God” as something we do only when we are at church or when we are praying. But the invitation to walk with Him isn’t just for Sunday mornings. It is for the messy, difficult, real moments of our everyday lives.
Here are four specific times He is extending his hand to you.
When He Asks Us To Do Hard Things
Just like Enoch, there will be times when you feel asked to do something that feels impossible. Maybe it is standing up for what is right when everyone else is sitting down. Maybe it is forgiving someone who hurt you. Maybe it is a calling or a responsibility that feels way too big for your shoulders.
It is natural to want to run away from these hard things. But often, the Lord asks us to do them specifically because they are hard.
When the road is easy, we tend to wander on our own. But when the climb gets steep, we have to reach out for help. It was the “hard thing” that forced Enoch to rely on the Lord. It was in the struggle that he truly saw God’s power. When you accept the hard tasks, you are putting yourself in a position where you can clearly see the Lord working through you.
When He Asks Us To Come Back To Him
There is a word we use in the Church called “repentance.” Sometimes people are afraid of that word. It can sound harsh, or like a punishment. But really, it just means turning around and coming back.
We all make mistakes. We all wander off the path sometimes. And when we do, the hardest part is often the walk back. We might feel like we’ve messed up too much, or that we are no longer “worth” His time. Shame tells us to hide.
But the invitation “Walk with me” is loudest when we feel unworthy. He isn’t asking you to come back so He can scold you. He wants you to come back so He can hold your hand again. He wants to lead you out of the shadows and back to the path where you can feel the sun. He can’t guide your steps if you are hiding from Him.
When He Inspires Us To Include Him In Our Plans
How often do we wake up, look at our to-do list, and just start running? We map out our school year, our careers, and our relationships. We make all the plans, and then, only when things go wrong, do we ask for help.
The Lord is inviting us to include Him before we start the day.
This invitation is a reminder that we don’t have to figure out our lives alone. Sometimes we forget Him because we think we are capable enough. But when we pause and say, “Lord, walk with me through this decision,” or “Walk with me through this workday,” we find that we are able to achieve so much more than we could alone. His plans for us are always better than the plans we have for ourselves.
When He Teaches Us To Trust Him
Perhaps the most important time to walk with Him is when we can’t see where the road is going.
Life is full of unknowns and uncertainties. We worry about the future. We worry about our families. We worry about things we cannot control. It is terrifying to walk into the dark.
But this is exactly when He says, “Walk with me.”
Walking with God doesn’t mean the fog instantly lifts and you can see ten years into the future. It means that even though you can’t see the destination, you trust the Guide. It is a lesson in letting go of your need to know everything, and holding on to the One who does.
How Does Walking With God Bless Us?

When we accept this invitation, we are entering into a relationship of trust with the Lord. And just like walking with a good friend makes a long journey feel shorter, walking with God changes the entire experience of life.
Here are four ways your life changes when you walk with Him.
We Find Peace in His Presence
The world can be a lonely place. Even when we are surrounded by people—at school, at work, or online—we can still feel deeply misunderstood or isolated. But walking with God means you never have to face a situation entirely on your own.
When you walk with Him, the silence isn’t empty anymore. You carry a quiet confidence knowing that the Creator of the universe is right beside you. It brings a peace that doesn’t make sense to the world—a calm feeling that says, “No matter what happens today, I am not alone, and I am going to be okay.”
We Receive Strength Beyond Our Own
Remember Enoch? He was just a “lad” who was “slow of speech.” On his own, he couldn’t move mountains. But when he walked with the Lord, he tapped into a power source that was infinite.
We all have limits. We get tired. We run out of patience. We run out of courage. But when we are yoked with the Savior—walking stride for stride with Him—His strength supports us. We find that we can handle things that would normally break us. We can forgive when we want to be angry. We can keep going when we want to quit. We become more than we could ever be by ourselves.
We See Ourselves Differently
Have you ever walked with someone who pointed out things you didn’t notice? “Look at that sunset,” or “Watch out for that stone.”
When you walk with God, you start to see the world through His eyes. But more importantly, you start to see yourself through His eyes. When we walk alone, we tend to focus on our flaws and our failures. But when we walk with Him, He reminds us of who we really are. He points out our potential. He reminds us that we are His children. The closer you walk with Him, the harder it becomes to dislike yourself, because you are walking with Someone who loves you perfectly.
We Find Direction in the Confusion
Life is loud. There are a million voices telling us who to be, what to wear, and what to believe. It is easy to get dizzy and lost in all the noise.
Walking with God gives us a compass. He knows the terrain of life better than we do. He knows where the hidden traps are, and He knows the way home. When we stay close to Him, we don’t have to stress about knowing the entire five-year plan. We just have to trust Him for the next step. We stop worrying about getting lost, because we are with the Guide.
Walk With Him Today
Take a moment to look at where you are right now. Look at the worries you are carrying and the questions you are holding. Now, imagine what it would feel like to share that weight with Someone who loves you infinitely.
You don’t have to wait until you are “spiritual enough” or “good enough.” You don’t have to wait until you have all the answers. The walk doesn’t begin at the finish line; it begins right here, in the middle of your messy, beautiful, unfinished story.
He has His hand outstretched. He is patient. And He is ready whenever you are.
