The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that Elder Gérald Caussé is the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Elder Caussé was called and ordained on Thursday, November 6, 2025, by President Dallin H. Oaks and other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Apostles serve as special witnesses of Jesus Christ throughout the world and oversee the operation of the global Church. The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is the second-highest presiding body in the Church’s government, serving under the direction of the First Presidency.
A Witness of Christ
In his remarks on Thursday, Elder Caussé shared a powerful testimony of his new responsibility as a special witness of the Savior.
“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ. He’s always been in the center of my life. I know Jesus Christ lives. And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That’s the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives.”
A Career of Global Service
Prior to this new calling, Elder Caussé, 62, served for 11 years as the Church’s Presiding Bishop.
- A native of Bordeaux, France, he was the third Presiding Bishop in the Church’s history to be born outside the United States.
- He was also the first Presiding Bishop for whom English is a second language.
- Before serving as the Presiding Bishop, Elder Caussé was a counselor in the Presiding Bishopric (2012–2015) and, prior to that, a General Authority Seventy (2008–2012).
As Presiding Bishop, he was responsible for managing the Church’s temporal affairs, which include humanitarian aid, welfare programs, tithing and fast offerings, the construction of physical facilities, and membership records.
Elder Gerald Caussé Testimony and Quotes
Here are other notable teachings from his years of service as a General Authority:
On Faith and Wonder:
“To marvel at the wonders of the gospel is a sign of faith. It is to recognize the hand of the Lord in our lives and in everything around us. … My brothers and sisters, is the gospel still wonderful to you? Can you yet see, hear, feel, and marvel?” (From “Is It Still Wonderful to You?” April 2015 General Conference)
On Service and Focus:
“My dear brothers and sisters, are we active in the gospel, or are we merely busy in the Church? The key is to follow the example of the Savior in all things. If we do that, we will naturally focus on saving individuals rather than performing tasks and implementing programs.” (From “It Is All about People,” April 2018 General Conference)
On Grace and Trials:
“I testify that while many circumstances in life may be beyond our control, none of us is beyond the reach of the Lord’s infinite blessings. Through His atoning sacrifice, the Savior will compensate for every inability and injustice if we offer our whole souls to Him.” (From “Compensating Blessings,” April 2025 General Conference)
