Now, the local government units have lifted off the restrictions. A lot of us were excited to go back to face-to-face gathering at church. Unfortunately, some friends had drifted away that they stopped attending or participating in Sunday worship.

If you are one of those who cease to continue church attendance or a newbie wanting to join, here are reasons why you should come and worship with us.

YOU WILL REMEMBER JESUS CHRIST AND BE MORE LIKE HIM.

There are many reasons why you need to go to church. Most importantly, you need to partake of the Sacrament (or Communion). Jesus Christ said, “Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11:24). The Sacrament is a way of renewing our sacred promises with the Lord and recharging our spirituality.

Your participation during Sunday School class is also essential. It will help you come closer to Jesus Christ. You will recognize that your heart is “knit together in love…”, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ” (Colossians 2:2).

YOU CAN BE STRENGTHENED AND YOUR FAITH WILL INCREASE

In church, you will learn the importance of keeping God’s commandments, how to improve your spirituality and live a better life. You will discover that you are not alone in the struggles you are facing. You will have leaders who can give you comfort and counsel.

As you continue to participate every Sunday, your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will increase. You will feel the Holy Ghost who brings “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, [and] faith” (Galatians 5:22).

YOU GAIN A SENSE OF BELONGING AND SUPPORT

In the church, you will meet different people – young and old. You will feel a sense of belonging as you get to know the people of your respective age group. This helps you build a support network that you can rely on.  

If you feel aloof or shy, the local missionaries will reach out to you. Your age group leaders will be there with you as well. You can ask them if you have questions or concerns.

YOU CAN RECEIVE ANSWERS

Maybe you have doubts, and you need guidance or direction in your life. Or you just want to feel God’s love in your life right now. Come, and worship with us!

As you consistently attend church and study the gospel of Jesus Christ with us, the Holy Ghost will help illuminate your mind with understanding. You will be ready to receive answers to your questions. God wants to communicate with you and the church is a good place to hear His voice.

Whatever challenges along the way, always remember that God will be bless you if you choose to follow His commandments to worship at church. If you feel no one was friendly to you or you feel offended, remember what President Dallin H. Oaks said. “Personal disappointments should never keep us from the doctrine of Christ, who taught us to serve, not to be served.”

Please know that we are imperfect people who are trying to follow the perfect example of Jesus Christ. Just like you, we are also in need of spiritual repair and healing. You can go to church each week with the intent of being active and having a goal of creating a positive difference in your life and other people’s lives.

During Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry, He organized His Church and called apostles, prophets, seventies, elders, bishops, priests, teachers, and deacons to lead the people (Ephesians 2:20). Through the organization of the Church, the gospel was preached to many people including the Gentiles. However, after the death of Jesus Christ and His apostles, the Church that He organized disintegrated. With no leaders to guide them, people were left to wander on their own without direction from the Lord.

Articles of Faith #6: “We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.”

After a long period of apostasy, the Lord reestablished His Church through the Prophet Joseph Smith. He once again called prophets, apostles, seventies, elders, bishops, etc. to oversee the affairs of His Church. The purpose of which is to administer the ordinances of salvation to all of God’s children so that we can all return to His presence.

Part of the Lord’s plan is to establish His Church on earth. Having Jesus Christ’s Church means that we can receive ordinances such as baptism, the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, endowment, temple sealing, etc. that will qualify us to enter God’s kingdom. The Church is the only way for us to receive these necessary ordinances for salvation.

As we recognize the importance of having Jesus Christ’s Church on earth, we must always remember that our biggest responsibility is our conversion to the gospel. Elder D. Todd Christofferson taught, “We do not strive for conversion to the Church but to Christ and His gospel, a conversion that is facilitated by the Church.”

There are so many blessings that are made available to us through Christ’s organized Church. In Elder Christofferson’s talk “Why the Church,” he mentioned several of these blessings.

1. The Church provides a community where people can help each other make righteous choices and gain a deeper understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
2. It gives us an opportunity to serve each other through our various Church responsibilities.
3. We can experience spiritual healing by participating in Sacrament meeting.
4. We receive counsel that can help us avoid sin.
5. The Church provides needful things that cannot be done by individuals alone such as taking care of the poor and needy.
6. Through the Church, the gospel can be preached to all nations.
7. The Church build temples where saving ordinances of the gospel are performed.
8. With Christ’s Church on earth, the purity of His doctrine are preserved.

The Lord loves us and that is why He has established His Church on earth – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The purpose of the Church is to bless and provide us with the things we need to return to live with Him again. It is only through the Church of Jesus Christ that God’s purposes can be accomplished. When we understand this truth, we are then able to accept why we need an organized religion.
