Giving and helping others are noble acts that we rarely think will result in something other than goodness. Some people say that it helps lighten their burden or makes them happy. Others say it helps build character or makes them feel grateful for what they have. Helping others obviously has its benefits.

We are even counseled in the scriptures to lose ourselves in the service of our fellowmen. This counsel is of course open to a lot of interpretation, but it certainly doesn’t mean throwing ourselves into service until we’ve got nothing else left to give.

Here are some signs that you might be giving too much.

Your help fosters dependence and isn’t helping the person grow. When your help becomes an expectation of continued support, you should take a step back and reassess the situation. Did the person actually make an effort to improve his/her situation? If you had an agreement that they would work on things and progress, did he/she get from Point A to Point B? Or was there no improvement because that person knew you would be there willing to help?

When your help becomes the safety net and an excuse for people not to acquire needed life or professional skills to improve themselves, your help is actually producing unhealthy unintended consequences, both for you and them.

The solution is not to stop helping altogether but to set boundaries and expectations if you are going to provide additional support. Even the Lord sets boundaries in the form of commandments to bless us. And even if He has everything to give us, He doesn’t just pour out every blessing for us, because if He did we wouldn’t have to work for it and grow.

You can’t pour from an empty cup. This metaphor perfectly sums up a lesson some learn the hard way. One tangible example is going into debt to help others financially. It might be tempting to dip into your emergency fund or use money you’ve set aside for your mortgage to help out, but if they weren’t able to uphold their end of the bargain and you ended up in debt, the results wouldn’t help you or them.

A woman once questioned a flight attendant’s instruction to place the mask over your mouth and nose first before assisting others. What could possibly be wrong with helping others first, right?

The fact is, when oxygen masks drop inside an airplane, it means that the oxygen level has dropped so dangerously low that one can lose consciousness quickly. If you don’t make putting on your mask a priority, you’ll very likely not able to help anyone.

There’s a reason why Latter-day Saints are taught that people are better able to serve and care for others when they are self-reliant temporally and spiritually. It’s because people can’t really pour from an empty cup. You can’t really give what you do not have.

You don’t feel at peace when you give. When giving leaves you up all night worrying and feeling exhausted or emotionally depleted, you should pause and start taking care of yourself. Take your feelings seriously as these feelings can be a precursor to depression, which is harder to recover from.

It may feel wrong to give priority to your peace of mind over the needs of others but doing so is critical. If you don’t, you can spiral into an unhealthy mental, emotional, and even physical state. This does not mean that you’re selfish or uncaring in any way. It means recalibrating, refortifying, and restoring yourself so you can get back to a state where you can help again.

Giving or helping others, whatever that may mean in your situation, is noble but you also owe it to yourself to set personal parameters to protect yourself from “generosity burnout”. God sent us here to Earth to thrive and reach our full potential and we can’t do that if we spread ourselves too thin. The good news is that when that happens, we can count on the Savior’s promise, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”. He is aware of our burdens and the compassion we feel towards others. He will strengthen us so we are better able to lift others in such a way that won’t require us to “run more than [we have] strength.”

The year 2020 has probably thrown us more trials than the last decade combined. It has taken a toll on most of us, if not all, in nearly every aspect of our lives. The good news is, we can cope—at our own pace using mechanisms that work for us personally.

One skill that can help us is resilience. Resilience is the ability to not only bounce back from life’s setbacks and difficulties, but also adapt well to change and find profound personal growth from adversity. It’s something that, once learned, can impact our behaviors, thoughts, and actions. So whether we are going through a tough time right now or we just want to be prepared when trials come, here are 11 ways to foster resilience in ourselves.

Believe in yourself. This is the most important way for us to build resilience. We have to believe that we are worth it. We have to believe that what has gotten us this far in life are the lessons we have learned and the right decisions we made. We have to believe that we are capable of thriving.

If you don’t feel this way about yourself because of mistakes you might have made, remember the last time you were in a similar situation. Remind yourself of all that you have already overcome. Remember how hard you fought to get to where you are now, and how far you’ve come from where you started.

Believe in yourself because someone so powerful, eternal, and perfect does. Our Father in Heaven knows exactly what we are capable of. Within us are godly attributes and divine potential that can give us strength and confidence to overcome our trials.

Another thing you can try is positive self-talk. It feels so good when others encourage us or believe in us. But you can give encouragement and compliments to yourself every day. If you did great and no one noticed, give yourself a pat in the back and say, “Great job!”. If you think you didn’t do so well, thank yourself for doing all you can. Positive self-talk can go a long way!

Nurture yourself. Self-care is a buzz word in the media and on social platforms every day but it’s more than a buzzword because our personal well-being depends on it. Self-care means nurturing ourselves mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally and across all areas that wellness encompasses.

Self-care is very personal and varies from person to person. It could be an hour of quiet time daily or during the weekend for some reading or meditation. It could be regular exercise and healthy eating or a weekend of watching your favorite movies. It could mean a spa day, a bubble bath or a day without the kids. It could be doing something you love, or enrolling in a class to learn something new. It could mean a day with friends or slowly moving away from toxic relationships, setting boundaries and saying no.

Self-care can mean many things but one thing is for sure, it isn’t a guilty pleasure or something we should do as a last resort to regain our sanity. It’s a life-long pursuit to maintain vibrant health, harmony, and happiness in our lives. It can transform our lives for the better.

When we nurture ourselves, our capacity to endure challenges increases. Our mind, body, heart, and spirit are ready to take on challenges because we’ve already developed a routine to help us cope with stress and that can sustain us during difficult times.

Nurturing oneself isn’t selfish. In fact, it helps us to become more selfless.

Accept that change is inevitable. Whether we like it or not, change will always be constant, no matter how well we plan our lives. When we accept that change is a part of life, it helps us be more open to stepping out of our comfort zone and evolving as a person. We will be more comfortable and prepared when life suddenly alters something that we had planned or hoped for.

Knowing that change can happen anytime can also help us prepare for contingency plans and teach us to become more strategic when everything goes south. It fosters flexibility to rediscover ourselves—our goals, desires, what we need for our inner well-being and how to find personal fulfillment. We could even find ourselves embarking in new directions we never knew possible.

We also become more accepting when our goals are no longer attainable given our current situation and shift our focus to what we can do to make our situation better. Having this mindset will allow us to recognize the good things that come from change, or count the blessings that we receive everyday despite our difficulties.

Accept circumstances that can’t be changed. When things don’t go as we hope, we tend to dwell on the “what could have been” and “what if”. Often times we daydream of what we wished would have happened and get stuck on wishing for things that we have no control over. This can cause us a great deal of stress and exhaustion and keep us from growing and living our lives freely.

The truth is, there are things that we have no control over, no matter how hard we try. The sooner we realize this, the sooner we can liberate ourselves from the baggage of the past, boost our self-esteem and grow our confidence to pursue the very things that make our souls feel most alive.

It can be really hard, even scary. But accepting is easier when you focus on the liberating and exhilarating feeling of letting go and no longer worrying about the things that you cannot change.

Recognize that your struggle is valid, no matter what you’re struggling with. Our individual struggles vary. Even similar struggles can come in different degrees and forms. No struggle is the same. So the next time you hear someone say that you shouldn’t fret because others have it much worse, you shouldn’t feel guilty.

We have every right to feel that we are struggling, regardless of what others have been through relative to our experience. There will be others not affected by something that’s stressing us out, but it does not mean that what we feel is not real. The fact that others might be coping better does not mean that our struggle isn’t valid. Each of us deal with our struggles differently. So let’s be kinder with ourselves. The sooner we recognize that we’re struggling, the sooner we can take action to solve whatever we’re struggling with and move on.

Establish manageable steps to solve the problem. Once you recognize that you’re struggling with something, you must act. You can’t simply sit and expect the problem to go away. The first step is to define your goal, then develop realistic steps that will help you move forward toward your goal. You can also reflect on the things that you could have done better in that kind of situation. This will help you not make the same mistakes you might have made in the past.

And when you accomplish something that brings you one step closer to your goal, celebrate it! Give yourself some credit—even if it seems like it’s a small win. If things get overwhelming and you feel discouraged, focus on the progress that you’ve made thus far.

Proactively working towards solving our problems or reaching our goals helps us feel more in control of our lives. This feeling can empower and motivate us even in the midst of adversity.

Solving a problem doesn’t happen overnight. It requires commitment and perseverance until we reach our goals.

Build and strengthen relationships. Even when we think we can do it all alone, social support in all its forms has an important role to play in our lives. Relationships that foster love, trust, encouragement, and reassurance of our worth can help boost our resilience. It helps us feel more at ease when we have people who genuinely care about us—in both good and bad times.

So strengthen those relationships—in whatever way you can. Drop a text or do a 5-minute catch-up over the phone. Share your milestones and celebrate with them in whatever way possible given our present circumstances. Support their businesses, give them a follow on their social media accounts so you stay connected and aware of what’s going on in their lives.

Strengthening a relationship is different for everyone, so explore what works for you and the people you love and care for. If you don’t have solid relationships yet, maybe it’s time to step out of your comfort zone a little and find someone you can do activities with—little steps that can flourish into a friendship you maybe never knew you needed.

Build on your existing strengths. We have all been on a rough journey—one way or another, but the fact that we are still here means we were able to pull through somehow. And because we have been through that rough journey, we all have strengths that have helped us to persevere in the face of difficulty, personal attributes such as the ability to stay calm in the midst of a heated argument, or the ability to see the silver lining in every situation.

When you face hard times, remember that you already have existing strengths that you can utilize and build on that will help you make it through.

Cultivate a positive attitude. Positivity means so much more than simply “seeing the good” in all things. It also means acknowledging that unpleasant emotions are part of life and are essential to our growth. It means that we can see the things that are not working, giving us the opportunity to improve them. It’s understanding that challenges are temporary and can teach us a thing or two about life. Cultivating a positive attitude requires conscious effort in the beginning, but with consistent effort, it will come more naturally when we need it.

Positivity not only help us survive. It’s key when we want to thrive.

Avoid negative outlets. It may be tempting to turn to alcohol, drugs, or other substances to temporarily relieve us from our pain and suffering, but these can do more harm than good. Or we may be tempted to go to places that are dark with banging loud music to shut our minds off but again, these kinds of outlets are all temporary and can even be damaging if we’re not careful. Some seek out people who are negative or sad themselves, thinking that they will understand them better, but such friends only increase the negativity in our lives, instead of helping us to heal.

The truth is, all these cannot cure our pain at all. Focus your time and energy instead on things that will help, and people who can guide you when you feel lost. Turn to people you can trust who will care for your well-being, exchanging negative outlets for more positive and encouraging ones.

There’s no other way forward but through. The sooner we realize this truth, the sooner we can get back up and pull ourselves together. It may be tempting to put our struggles aside and deal with them later but it’s like baggage we need to carry up a staircase. The more weight we take with us, the harder it is, and the more it will slow us down. So when a struggle presents itself, let’s face it head on. Some baggage will take only a little effort and time to unload and others will take a lot more, but if we deal with them as soon as we are able and act to make them a little lighter each day, we can move forward with less weight on our shoulders.

Increasing our resilience takes time and effort. It’s not something that we can develop overnight. In fact, it’s a life-long quest that we need to continue to pursue. As we do, our ability to bounce back from challenges and adapt to change will increase. It can even transform our lives for the better if we let it.

Among the blessings that the Law of Tithing brings, one of the less obvious is the door that opens to how we can increase and better manage our finances.

The Law of the Tithe was instituted in ancient times. Alma 13:15 records that Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek. This principle has a number of promised blessings predicated upon obedience, some of which are recorded in Malachi.

“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:10)

Aside from the obvious ones, there are a lot of subtle blessings that obeying the Law of Tithing can open up for us. Elder David A. Bednar has spoken about how they have been blessed because of obedience to this Law. Among other things, the Law of Tithing can be a blessing to us by opening our minds to how we can be better with our finances.

What to do with the 90%

After separating the 10% from our increase, we are left with the rest of the 90%. When we obey the Law of Tithing, we see our increase as portions instead of as a whole. The human mind works better if it can see things in details. Breaking down large things into smaller things can help us see what to do with each part rather than thinking only in terms of large purchases. We realize when 10% has already been given to the Lord, that we are accountable for what we do with what is left. This can help us be more responsible with where our money goes by creating and following a budget. This mentality increases our desire to be better stewards over the blessings the Lord has given. And this does not apply only to those blessings in the form of money but also to our use of our time, health and strength, to name a few.

Doors to opportunities will open to increase your capacity to increase your income.

How to Increase our Increase

As promised by the Lord, when we obey the Law of Tithes He will open the windows of heaven. These windows come in a lot of forms. Employment, business opportunities, investment strategies – these are some of the windows that the Lord opens. Because tithing gives us a better perspective when it comes to money, we now have a higher objective in mind. Our money-making efforts are not only limited to our needs and wants, but they give us a desire to align these efforts with the building of the Lord’s Kingdom here on Earth. This desire to contribute more to the Lord’s work will encourage us to aim for a higher income so we can pay a larger amount in tithing. A higher objective also gives us the power to bridle our passions and to prioritize our needs over our wants. What a blessing it is to think this way! Indeed, the Lord multiplies what we can do, thus increasing what we can earn.

Holding on to the Lord’s promise of security increases confidence and efficiency in our efforts to earn.

Be a More Confident Earner

The Lord also promises that He “will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field…” This gives us a sense of security in all our efforts to earn an income. This confidence in the workplace can help us become more efficient in our craft. Isn’t it such a blessing to be able to focus on the tasks at hand because the Lord has promised that He will take care of everything else while we are working? Paying tithes reinforces our sense of obligation and builds responsibility and self-reliance. These qualities are prime requirements in any employment or business.

A Word of Caution

If we pay tithes because we expect to get rich, we are paying tithes for the wrong reason. Although it is true that the Lord will open the windows of heaven, He will do that in His own due time when we need it the most. These blessings are not to fuel our greed but to increase our understanding of the greater purpose of money. The main purpose of tithing is to care for His children and provide means for the Church to further the Lord’s work here on Earth. The blessings that come with that are only secondary to the privilege it affords us to be a contributor to the fulfillment of the Lord’s work and His glory.

It is such a blessing to understand that finance is but a tool. The Law of Tithing helps us avoid the many traps the adversary sets up to make us slaves to the riches of the world. Looking at the big picture, tithing helps us rise up wiser and better in the gaining and management of our finances. What a blessing indeed!

The post 3 Reasons Why Saying “Thy Will Be Done” Can Be Dangerous appeared first on morefaith.ph.

“Thy will be done” is a phrase used by Jesus Christ when He was praying to His Father in Heaven in the Garden of Gethsemane, asking the Father to remove the cup, or suffering, from Him. The Savior knew it had to be done so even when His suffering intensified, He willingly submitted to Heavenly Father’s will. In our own personal prayers, we may have used this phrase as a way of submitting our wills to the Father but we need to use this phrase with caution. Here are 3 reasons why saying “thy will be done” can be dangerous.

When we choose to leave it all up to God and do nothing. When we are faced with a difficult situation, we sometimes think that it is all God’s will and He will make it better in His own due time so we say, “Thy will be done”. While it is true that sometimes God puts us in a difficult situation for our growth and development, He does not want us to idle away our time and do nothing about it. Waiting for God to take away our difficult circumstances is not what He wants for us. What He really wants us to do is to determine how we can make our situation better, learn from our experiences, increase our faith, and trust that He will help us as we make conscious efforts to rise through our difficulties.

When we don’t take accountability for our actions. Some difficulties in our lives come as a direct result of disobedience or unwise choices we have made. Saying “Thy will be done” in this kind of situation is dangerous because it is not actually because of God’s will that we are in a difficult situation. It will not only lead us to believing that we did not do anything wrong but will also rob us of the opportunity to repent and ask for forgiveness. God’s will in this situation is for us to acknowledge what we did wrong, repent, and resolve to not repeat the same mistake again.

When we have not done our best yet. When we fail at something, we may be tempted to think that maybe it’s just not for us and it is God’s will, so we just let it be. Sometimes saying “Thy will be done” in this situation can put us at ease. But if we have not really done our best yet to achieve this goal, saying “Thy will be done” is just an excuse we use to escape an unfulfilled goal. Many young adults use this to escape the dating and marriage discussion, thinking that maybe it is God’s will that they are not dating or marrying yet. While it is true that sometimes it is God’s will, some young adults have not done their best yet in finding a potential eternal companion. Saying “Thy will be done” when we haven’t exhausted all our resources can diminish our desire to fulfill our goal, thinking that we can’t do anything about it since it is already God’s will.

The saying “when we do our best, God will do the rest” may be a cliché to some, but when we truly stretch ourselves to our full potential, God will magnify our efforts and do the rest. God’s will is that we do all that we can and He will provide a way for us to accomplish our goals.

We are all counseled to be submissive as a little child to God’s will but when we do so, may we always remember to do it when we have already done our part in the work and learned what He wants us to learn in the process.

Everyday we have a fresh start and we seem to have endless beginnings ahead. As we plan for the things that will occupy our daily lives, setting goals is such a useful tool. It may sound cliche but whatever you call it – planning, pondering, making checklists – it can help you start your day off right.

Setting goals make each day more meaningful.

As we pen down our things-to-do or map out our activities, let us consider these 3 Rs as a guide for better days ahead.

Regrets

Looking back, were there things we did that made us say, “Why did I do that?” Or were there things we wanted to accomplish that we failed to do? Regrets or feelings of remorse over the could-have-beens can motivate us in setting goals so we can step up a rung or two in our ladder of progress. We can finally do that diet and exercise program we always wanted to engage in. Reach out to an estranged family or friend. Stop a bad habit. The things that made us feel frustrated can increase our desire to do better. Instead of being a stumbling block, let us make our regrets a driving force and strive to be better versions of ourselves.

Repentance

The process of repentance starts with a feeling of regret but it doesn’t stop there. In setting goals, let us assess how we can apply the teachings of Jesus Christ and heed his invitations to be more like Him. Let us look at the process as a holistic approach to increase “in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” Completing the process means to correct the wrongs we did and do the things we omitted. We may have started the process but have not really finished it. Setting goals to really go through the whole process can give us a better perspective as to what limited our desire to fully repent and overcome those things.

It can help to ask ourselves, “Have I returned what I took?” May it be a thing or a compliment or gratitude withheld from someone who deserves it. “Have I confessed to what I did wrong or failed to do? Or am I still delaying or justifying?”

Readiness to Show Appreciation

Let us learn to look around and recognize how blessed we are. We have a lot to be grateful for! In his October 2012 General Conference address, President Deiter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said, “Brothers and sisters, no matter our circumstances, no matter our challenges or trials, there is something in each day to embrace and cherish. There is something in each day that can bring gratitude and joy if only we see and appreciate it.”

Setting goals based on an attitude of gratitude will go a long way. It will help us cherish the things that matter most like family, friends, values, faith, and love for our fellowmen. It will give more meaning to our daily to-do list. We can make sure that we do something to show our love and appreciation for the things that are most important to us. It will serve as an inner compass to put first things first. If our goal is to be happy then being grateful is a good starting point. This is a jumpstart to a life of positivity!

As we look forward to what is in store for us, let us exercise our God-given agency to make better choices. Let us consider the regrets we had and learn from them. May we fully repent of our wrongdoings and resolve to be better. Increase our ability to appreciate the blessings that are ours and spend more time and effort on the most important things. With these in mind, we can always have a bright hope for better tomorrows.

Lately, all we hear in the news is about the “Big One”; a high-intensity earthquake that can strike Metro Manila anytime. The forecast of this earthquake is a scary one. The scenario of its possible damages makes everyone afraid. The thing about this earthquake is that it is unpredictable. While I was evaluating whether or not I am prepared for this “Big One”, another kind of earthquake also came to mind. This kind of disaster leaves less noise but can cause more damage. We also need to make sure we are prepared for spiritual earthquakes.

The Japanese Example

February 6, 2012, marked the first strong earthquake I ever experienced. It was a fairly ordinary day, rather perfect and sunny. I was doing a workout when suddenly, I was jolted by strong tremors. I couldn’t describe the fear that came into my heart during that time. All I did was pray. Fortunately, the earthquake didn’t last long. After that, I began to search on YouTube how certain countries prepare for sudden extreme ground movement. What caught my attention was a video of a Japanese family during an earthquake.

In the video, a family of three was eating in a restaurant when an earthquake struck. The shaking was pretty strong because utensils kept falling to the ground. What amazed me was the family’s remarkable example of being calm. All three of them waited for the earthquake to end without looks of panic on their faces. It was obvious that the building was swaying! How could they not be afraid? I eventually learned that since Japan always experiences earthquakes, the foundation and structure of their buildings are designed to withstand this natural disaster.

Young man answers in Priesthood class.

Preparing For Spiritual Earthquakes

When spiritual earthquakes come to our lives, are we prepared? Have we built the foundation necessary for us to remain calm when the strongest spiritual earthquakes come? Like the earthquakes of nature, spiritual earthquakes are unpredictable. They may come in the form of temptation or overwhelming trials. A passage in the Book of Mormon gives wonderful advice on how we can survive these challenging times. In Helaman 5:12, it says:

12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless woe, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.”

In just one short verse, we are taught on how to not only overcome spiritual earthquakes but storms as well. The most important thing of all is to build our foundation on Christ for He is a “sure foundation.” Like the Japanese family in the restaurant, we can be still despite the temptations and trials because we know that the Lord is with us. We can calmly brave the storm.

The Process Of Building A Strong Foundation

But building a sure foundation on Christ is not done in one day. It requires consistent effort to become like Him. It is learning how to trust Him and His plan. When we trust Him, we come to know that the storm has an end. When we know Him, we have Someone to turn to when times become difficult. As people living in the Latter-days, we are susceptible to more of this spiritual turmoil.

Christ once told a parable that differentiates between a wise man and a foolish man. In His words, the Savior taught:

“He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

“But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great” (Luke 6:48–49).

Like the “Big One” that threatens Metro Manila, we can’t tell when our spiritual challenges may come. They will be difficult and challenging. But when we have the Lord and Savior as our sure foundation, we can survive these challenges. Let us, day by day, strive to build our foundation on Him. He will not fail us.

We usually feel like we fail with our goals. In order to be successful this 2017, here are the ABCs to achieving our goals.

The post The ABCs to Achieving Your Goals appeared first on morefaith.ph.

Goodbye, 2016… 2017 here we come!!! It has been a great year. We hope everyone found joy from the past year. We commend those who surpassed challenges and stayed strong. And we hope for a better year for those who are yearning for greater peace and happiness in life. For most of us, the end of the year will be complete once we set our new year’s resolution.

Some of the many principles often used to achieve goals would be:

The acronym SMART, and its different variations:

S – specific, significant, stretching

M – measurable, meaningful, motivational

A – agreed upon, attainable, achievable, acceptable, action-oriented

R – realistic, relevant, reasonable, rewarding, results-oriented

T – time-based, time-bound, timely, tangible, trackable

First, we set goals, then we make plans

Have a vision

“The dullest pencil is better than the sharpest memory”

This quote explains why we need to write our vision, goals, and plans and post them where we can see them

Although we already know these principles, why does it seem like we are not achieving our goals? Or… are we really not?

Quentin L. Cook, a Mormon ecclesiastical leader shared the rules he learned from his father:

We needed to have worthwhile goals.

We could change our goals at any time.

We had to diligently work towards whatever goal we chose.

Looking back on the past year and the goals you had set, ask yourself the following questions: Are my goals worthwhile? Am I realistic with my goals and do I adjust them when necessary? Did I work diligently to reach them? If most of your answers are yes and still you feel like you have not achieved your goal, then the following principles can help you work on your goals for this year.

The secret to getting ahead and achieving your goals is to write them down.

Achieving Your Goals

A for Accountability and Adjustment

When we are accountable, we are responsible for our actions and our decisions. Part of accountability is evaluating our progress in achieving our goals. Are we able to do them? If yes, how often? Or how much improvement did we achieve? If we are not able to accomplish them, think of the challenges we have had.
You can create your own indicator of measurement. This indicator depends on the type of goals you have set and how long it will take to reach them. For instance, it could be a self-report of a yes/no answer for whether the goals are achieved or not. It could also be a numerical figure such as the amount of money saved or pounds lost. You can customize your own evaluation. You can do it weekly, monthly or yearly. It depends on the time-table of your desired goals and plans. It is also highly encouraged to have a person to whom you can report your progress: your spouse, your parents, your friends, or whoever you feel comfortable sharing your goals with.

And, finally adjusting your goals and plans. After evaluating your goals be honest with yourself and ask if it is realistic. If you feel like you need to make some adjustments with frequency or with time, do so. On the other hand, if you feel like your goal is too easy, adjust it so you will be able to stretch yourself. The goals we set help us become who we want to be so it is very important to allow us to succeed.

B for Becoming Aware of Distractions

Working towards a goal is challenging yet it still should be fun. Achieving our goals should help us be happy with ourselves and not yet achieving them should motivate us more instead of discouraging us. Quentin L. Cook shared three distractions that keep us from becoming happy.

Distractions which keep us from doing what we ought to do

The magnification of small imperfections

Unfavorable comparisons with others

Positive reinforcement is the most effective way to modify behavior. As your efforts produce favorable results, it will encourage you to continue towards your goal. Sometimes our measurement of our success is founded on the acknowledgment we get from other people or worse our comparison of ourselves to them. This is not wrong but make sure that you know how to positively reward and commend yourself for your efforts. The principle out of small things, great things are accomplished, should be your gauge in knowing if you are achieving your goals.

C for Consistency and Commitment

Ultimately, feeling successful comes through consistency. Patience indeed is a virtue. We need to work hard even when we do not see an obvious result of our efforts and patiently wait for the outcome. For a habit to be developed, it should be done for at least 18-21 days, but may take longer depending on the goal you wish to achieve. When you are committed to your goals you will do everything to achieve them, even when oppositions come your way.

Pagkain

Damit at Kumot

Radyo at Cellphone

Lighter, Posporo, Kandila at Pito

Medikasyon at First aid kit
