Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are undoubtedly Christians. They believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Redeemer, and the head of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Prophet Joseph Smith wrote, “We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost” (Articles of Faith 1:1). As true believers of Jesus Christ, members honor Him and follow His examples throughout their lives. They remember the Savior, Jesus Christ, every day in thoughts, words, and deeds according to the covenants they made during baptism.

When I was investigating the church ten years ago, I also wondered if members were Christians. I was looking for a satisfying answer to my question, and then one Sunday I felt something uplift me as I sat at sacrament meeting. I listened to the sacrament prayers offered by one of the brethren and it pierced my heart. I realized that Jesus Christ is mindful of those “who remember Him always and keep His commandments” and they are blessed “to always have His Spirit to be with them” (Moroni 4–5). It deeply touched my whole being that day. Peace and joy were revived.

I am a child of God and I believe that He has a plan for each of us. I believe Jesus Christ is the founder and the ruler of the Church from the beginning until now. I know that Jesus Christ redeemed us from our fallen state. I am a disciple of Jesus Christ.

 

Do Latter-day Saints Believe In Jesus Christ?

Yes, absolutely. The foundation of the faith is a profound belief in Jesus Christ. He is worshipped as the Son of God, the Messiah, and the Savior of the world. Members strive to model their lives after His teachings, seeking to become more like Him through prayer, service, and keeping His commandments.

The Book of Mormon is a powerful witness of Jesus Christ. Often referred to as “Another Testament of Jesus Christ,” the book chronicles the history of ancient inhabitants of the Americas and their interactions with the Savior. It contains accounts of His ministry, His teachings, and His appearance to them following His resurrection, testifying to His divinity and role as the Savior of all mankind.

What Teachings of Jesus Christ Do Latter-day Saints Follow?

Members strive to follow the core tenets taught by Christ in the New Testament and restored in modern revelation. This includes the commandment to love God and love one’s neighbor as oneself. Central to the faith is the practice of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism by immersion for the remission of sins, and the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. The emphasis is consistently on service, forgiveness, kindness, and living a life that reflects the character of Christ.

Who Do Latter-day Saints Worship? Joseph Smith or Jesus Christ?

Latter-day Saints worship only God the Eternal Father in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith is revered as a prophet of God—the instrument through whom the Church was restored in these latter days—but he is not an object of worship. The focus of all worship, prayer, and devotion is exclusively directed toward Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, who is the Savior and Redeemer of all humanity.

Do They Pray To Jesus Christ?

In accordance with the example and instruction given by Jesus Christ Himself, members of the Church pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ. By praying in His name, members acknowledge His role as the mediator between God and man and express gratitude for His Atoning sacrifice. While prayers are directed to the Father, they are offered as disciples of Christ, seeking to align their will with His and inviting His influence into their lives.
